5 Qualities of a Loyal Employee

First things first: Loyalty has nothing to do with length of employment or blind obedience. Who is more loyal: the 10-year veteran employee who performs all the orders immediately without voicing his own opinion on this or that point or the employee who joined the team just a few months ago but who fully embraces your company’s objectives and who does his best to reach them? For sure, it depends, but the new employee wins every time.

Truly committed staff members do not display their attitudes by helping their organisations to succeed only, they also show their loyalty in other ways. And here’re a few of them:

They see a person in a boss. A loyal employee realizes that you’re not just a chief who has no feelings, dreams and hopes. He understands you want to help him to achieve both professional and personal goals and he tries to learn what’s best for you in your personal and life and at work. He simply sees you as more than a chief and he treats you that way.

They publicly praise. It’s always pleasant to hear from a boss that you perform well. But to receive a praise from an employee is just incredible. Committed staff members recognize the contributions of others, especially in front of a group of colleagues where words have even more deep impact. Even when truly loyal employees can’t agree with you, they don’t try to prove you wrong. They prove their boss right.

They privately disagree. Every manager want his peers bring issues forward but there’re things that are better solved in private. Remarkable staff members come to a boss to discuss a disturbing matter to escape setting off a firestorm if voicing his thoughts among colleagues. They do not mock, do not gossip behind your back because they give you the respect even when you’re not around.
They speak when others don’t. Committed employees don’t hesitate to express their points of view during a meeting as they have a great feel for colleagues and their concerns. They understand that the company won’t succeed without you knowing what your peers is thinking of and without peers knowing what the boss thinks about.

They are always fiddling. For most employees it’s better to follow set processes and procedures even when they seem wrong and bad structured.  Remarkable and loyal staff members find ways to change things they don’t like just because they want them be better and can’t help it.
